Dr. Ajit Dangi

President and CEO, Danssen Consulting

Dr. Ajit Dangi is President and CEO of Danssen Consulting, a consultancy firm specialising in Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences and Healthcare. He is also Chairman of the Board of Fulford India Ltd. a subsidiary of Merck & Co. Inc.USA, and is also on the board of Atul Bioscience Ltd. Dr. Dangi has served as Director General of Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India ( OPPI ), a premier association of Research based International Pharmaceutical Companies for over seven years, where he played a key role in bringing IPR regime in India . He is former President & Executive Director of Johnson & Johnson Ltd., India where he served for 20 years in various capacities. Dr. Dangi also worked with Unilever Group Co. in U.K. for five years before returning to India. He is a Chemistry graduate from University of Bombay and later earned his Masters and Doctorate Degrees( Ph. D.) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from University of London , England. He has also undergone an Advanced Management Programme from Kellogg Graduate School of Business, Chicago, U.S.A. and coaching from world renowned CEO Coach Marshal Goldsmith.

Dr. Dangi has over three an half decades of rich and varied experience in Research, Manufacturing, Project Management, Sales & Marketing and General Management in the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Industry in India and abroad. He has also served on various Industry bodies such as President of Pharmaceutical & Allied Manufacturers & Distributors Association Ltd. ( PAMDAL ) , Vice President of OPPI and Chairman of its HRD Committee. He has served on the Advisory Board of United States Pharmacopeia . In 2011, he was awarded ` Pharma Professional of the Decade Award ` instituted by Indo American Chamber of Commerce and Pharma Leadership Magazine. He is a life member of Indian Pharmaceutical Association and serves on its Central Executive Council and has served as member of the Indian Pharmacopeia Committee. Widely travelled in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, he takes keen interest in academic affairs and has served as Member of the Governing Body of Bombay College of Pharmacy and is a visiting faculty at various Management Institutes and Pharmacy Colleges in India. He has been Examiner for Ph.D. Studies at the University of Bombay and is a sought after Speaker / Panelist on many pharmaceutical conferences in India and abroad. He has authored several articles and papers in Scientific Journals and Magazines. He had been an active Rotarian and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Lion Daara B. Patel

Secretary-General Indian Drug Manufacturers Association

Lion Daara B Patel is a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Mumbai and has a Diploma in Materials Management from Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM).

He has worked with multinational companies as well as large business houses like

  • Parke Davis (India) Limited as Director – Purchasing
  • Sinar Mas Group (Indonesia, Jakarta) as General Manager Procurement (Agribusiness Division)
  • Jet Airways (India) Limited as General Manager – Purchase, Properties & Administration

Currently (since 2002) he is the Secretary General of Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association, an apex body of 1000 plus pharmaceutical and bulk drug manufacturers.

  • He is responsible for the smooth functioning of the association as per the constitution and By-Laws. He provides prompt response to members’ queries and problems, organizes industry specific seminars, training programs & workshops, makes presentations, chairs technical sessions at various industry events, efficient handling of pricing related issues, EXIM policy and regulatory & technical affairs, Industry Trade related issues. He also coordinates activities / issues with other Associations.
  • He has excellent leadership qualities and is an able administrator. He is responsible for the smooth functioning of the Association which includes P.R. activities, organizing and conducting Training Programmes and liaising with the Government and Ministry. He leads the association’s CSR initiatives.
  • He has successfully led delegations of Indian Pharmaceutical Companies jointly with FICCI and Reed Exhibitions to China as well as Japan for interactive meetings with SFDA, Ministry of Commerce, Chinese Pharmaceutical & API Manufacturers & CPIA.
  • He was invited by United States Pharmacopoeia as an Official Observer in Washington in April 2010 and as a Delegate in April 2015.
  • Bestowed with one of the most prestigious awards – "Pharma Professional of the Decade" by the Pharma Leaders Group in December 2014.
  • Recently Awarded by The Economic Times for 'Commendable contribution to the Pharmaceutical Industry'.
  • His other interest lies in various social associations; he is a very active member of Lions Clubs International and was the District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 323 A1, Mumbai in 2008-2009.

Promoter Director of Cans & Closures Pvt. Ltd. – a leading manufacturer of PET packaging products catering to the Coca Cola chain and the Pharma Industry.

Was instrumental in launching the largest Stem Cell Banking network in the APAC region -- Cordlife, in India in collaboration with Strassenburg.

Has been an active member of the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) for the last several years and has served the Association in various capacities including Vice-President, East.

Is currently the National President of IDMA.

Kewal Handa

Managing Director of Pfizer Limited

Managing Director of Pfizer Limited, India from 2005 to 2012. Prior to this, has served as Executive Director - Finance, Pfizer Limited. Also Managing Director of Wyeth Ltd from 2009 to 2012.

Under his leadership, Pfizer India became one of the top ten pharmaceutical companies in India, due to new initiatives and innovative strategies implemented during his term. He constantly challenged the rules of the game – whether it was making Pfizer India the first MNC to enter into the branded generics space in India or explore a unique partnership with the Government to increase access.

Building a diverse organization is one of his key focuses. As part of this, he has driven the various teams to hire and retain women colleagues in management and most importantly in sales positions – an initiative unheard of in the Indian pharmaceutical industry. He has managed this by sensitization and developing policies that are women friendly. These initiatives are now case studies and were showcased at a ministerial roundtable held in Turkey.

He is qualified Management Accountant and Company Secretary and has a Masters Degree in Commerce. Has completed the Pfizer Leadership Development Program from Harvard University and the Senior Management Development Program from IIM, Ahmadabad. Has also done a Certificate course on Marketing Strategy from Columbia Business School, New York.

He was awarded the ‘India CFO 2004 – Excellence in Finance in an MNC’ by International Market – Assessment Group, the Bharat Shiromani Award in 2007 and the Pharma Leaders - Pharma Professional of the year 2010.

Satish Waman Wagh

Chairman & Managing Director of Supriya Lifescience Ltd.

Shri Satish Waman Wagh comes from a typical middle class working family. Initially he did his graduation in Economics, he again registered himself for a degree in science and passed his degree in Chemistry from University of Bombay. He started working as a Plant Supervisor in a Bulk Drug manufacturing company. After working for about 10 years in that capacity and gaining valuable experience and feel of a manufacturing industry, probably with his basic background of economics, the idea of starting his own unit started taking shape in his mind. In 1987 he took a bold decision to quit the job and jumped into the vast world of chemical manufacturing business on his own. With extremely meager financial support out of his own savings, due to the enthusiasm and dynamic ideas he could successfully convince the authorities and could garner financial support from MSFC. The formalities of purchasing a piece of land in remote place like Lote Parshuram Industrial Area of MIDC ware completed and small shed was erected out of available funds. The necessary machinery and equipments were brought and Mr. Satish W. Wagh started manufacturing Textile Auxiliaries and was successful in developing a market for his products despite the tough competition from large business houses in that field. However, as the things changed a need to diversify the activities were felt.

The opportunity was located and now it was a question of grabbing it on a right time. Once again the drive from within could not keep Mr. Satish Wagh passive and he took a bold step ahead and entered the field of manufacture of bulk drugs in 1993 starting his activities with Chlorpheniramine Maleate with initial manufacturing reactor of a capacity of 350 ltrs only. In last 25 years, Mr. Satish Wagh, has placed Supriya Lifescience Ltd. In the map of International Pharmaceutical world with flag of a major player in Anti-Histamine therapeutic segment. Today the Supriya Lifescience Ltd. is the largest manufacturer of Chlorphenirame Maleate in the world and exporting to more than 85 countries. Besides, mapping his own growth and continuous service to pharma & Chemicals Industry, Mr. Satish Wagh enthused and helped many young enthusiastic new entrepreneurs to mark their presence in pharma world.

Along with this contribution to Pharma Industry Mr. Satish W. Wagh is also a major player in manufacturing of various chemicals which is required for industries like Pharma, Textiles, Dyes, etc. Today, Mr. Satish W. Wagh is the VICE CHAIRMAN OF CHEMEXCIL. S.M.Mudda is a Pharmacy graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies. He has more than 39 years of wide experience in pharmaceutical industry covering all aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Currently, he is Director – Global Strategy (Technical) at Micro Labs Limited, Bangalore, a 2000 crore company, with whom he is associated for more than 30 years. He is responsible for all strategic decisions of the company.
